Foods That Help Prevent Piles
20 January 2026 · 4 min read
A high-fibre diet is the single most effective way to prevent piles. Here are the everyday Indian foods that keep bowel movements soft and effortless.
Fibre is the foundation
Straining is the main mechanical cause of piles. Soft, bulky stools remove that strain, and fibre is what makes stools soft and bulky.
Everyday foods that help
- Whole grains: brown rice, jowar, bajra, whole wheat roti and oats
- Pulses and legumes: moong, chana, rajma and lentils
- Vegetables: drumstick, spinach, okra, carrot and beetroot
- Fruits: papaya, guava, banana, pear and orange
- Soaked seeds: isabgol, flaxseed and chia in moderation
What to limit
Very spicy food, deep-fried snacks, excess red meat, alcohol and long gaps between meals all worsen constipation. Drinking two to three litres of water a day matters as much as the food itself.
